Welcome to the fifth edition of the Minimalist Side Hustles newsletter.
Each week (for the first 10 weeks) we will cover a different minimalist side hustle, this week we dive into the second one, minimalist challenges.
I love taking part in challenges, and even creating minimalist ones like this 5-day one to help people launch their minimalist newsletter.
You can see what’s coming in the next 7 issues at the end of this one.
What are minimalist challenges?
Challenges are great, but what is a “minimalist” challenge?
The difference is in the delivery and even the creation.
You can deliver your challenge by sharing the steps in your community, book, PDF, blog, or email sequence.
The minimalist approach involves an email sequence with short emails.
Emails go directly to your audience, making it easier for them to take action through the challenge.
Keeping each email under 200 words makes them more likely to be read.
Making the challenge short & sweet (5 to 10 days) will make them much more likely to complete it, making them see your challenge as a success.
You can even create the challenge in a minimalist way by writing one e-mail per day until the whole sequence is complete.
This way you can launch today right after you’ve written the first email.
There are 3 main uses for minimalist challenges.
Use challenges to engage your current audience.
Ask them to reply throughout the challenge, and you can have awesome conversations and build valuable relationships.Use challenges to grow your audience.
Offer your challenge as a lead magnet. Give it away for free in exchange for someone’s email address.Use challenges to monetize your audience.
Within the challenge, or at the end, promote one of your offers or an affiliate offer. It can even be a longer version of the challenge.
Are you interested in creating a minimalist challenge?
Get started with minimalist challenges in 4 easy steps.
Choose a challenge and map it out.
Decide what your challenge will do for your audience, and then map out the different steps they need to take to complete the challenge. You can do this on paper or in your favorite note-taking app.Choose an email service provider.
I use ConvertKit (soon to transition to Gumroad), but you can use whichever one you feel comfortable with. Some examples include Mailchimp, EmailOctopus, Gumroad, and Aweber.Create a new email sequence.
Start by choosing a template that all your emails will use, and then write out each of the emails from step #1.Create a signup page.
Most email service providers have templates you can use to make your landing page, it doesn't need to be fancy, just clear and fast.
I’ve created quite a few challenges to use as lead magnets, to sell, and to engage my community. Everyone loves them, it helps people learn while taking action.
