The main reason was to keep the different "topics" separate so it's easier for subscribers to choose what they want and don't want, along with separate signup pages, formats, features, and homepages.
I'm still not 100% sold on separate newsletters vs sections, but I'm ~90% sold on it.
It looks like your managing all these newsletters as separate publications under a single substack account. Rather than as sections of a single publication. I'm curious as to your reasoning on why you decided to do it that way.
My vision become more clear those days, and i created 3 more publications under my name, to separate the topics, and i feel much better now, ideas are unfolding and organising properly.
That makes sense. Ive been debating this for myself, so it's nice to see how someone else chooses to set things up. From what I was reading, you can subscribe/unsubsribe from sections but it's not straightforward. And as the writer you have no control over who is subscribed to which section- it's all or nothing, which I don't like. Whereas different publications allow you to segment your list.
Yeah you’re right, sections puts a lot of responsibility on the reader to choose what they want to see, and if they don’t know that you’ll likely lose them unless they happen to be subscribed to the right sections.
This entire section vs publication is interesting. I just added a section thinking it would be easier to manage. That may be true but easier for me doesn’t sound like it’s easier for my audience. Did I interpret that correctly?
That's what I believe, a lot of people won't know how to or even that they can pick sections to subscribe/unsubscribe to. That said, a lot of publications use sections, I think it's more of a personal preference of how you want things to work and look more than anything else.
It’ll be interesting to see how you use Substack having read your work on Medium
Most of what i was doing on Medium is coming here so it should be familiar for you ☺️
You are on fire. Well done, Jamie.
Thanks Elizabeth :))
Why did you decide for an additional newsletter?

OK, I'm interested in learning about Minimalist Clothing...!

Thanks Janet :))
Amazing how you know you will be consistant with 4-5 newsletters, Jamie!
I’m looking forward to it now that the hardest part (all the Substack settings) is done lol
Exciting!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

I considered both and ended up going with separate publications for a few reasons:
Separate homepages.
May use separate domains.
Didn’t want a cluttered navigation bar for sections.
But the most important was separate sign up pages.
Yesterday, i decided to do the same !
My vision become more clear those days, and i created 3 more publications under my name, to separate the topics, and i feel much better now, ideas are unfolding and organising properly.
Before that, it was a mess in my head !
Same here!
I find it much easier to stay focused when there's separation.

4 newsletters! Wow! I love the idea 💕💕💕
Thanks Deni, the key is making them work together as part of a bigger system for me :)
Congratulations 🎊... slowly with the 4th newsletter it's not minimalist anymore 🤣🤣... I am excited to read it!!!
